Re: GUS Canada’s generous in-kind donation

Dear Suzanne,

In these extraordinary times, your organization’s selfless act of local love means more than I can say.

As you know, COVID-19 has had a devastating effect on our communities. It has changed how we live, work and interact with one another. But, without a doubt, it has been our most vulnerable citizens, and those who were isolated or living on the edge even before the pandemic hit, who have been hardest hit by the global crisis – facing unforeseen job losses, food scarcity and increasing mental health issues.

That’s why your gift of 160 care packages including personal hygiene items means so much right now. When tough decisions need to be made about whether to buy food or other items, it’s these personal care items that are often forgone. And yet it’s the simple things like soap, toothpaste and shampoo that are so all important to everyone’s dignity and self-esteem.

It’s thanks to the thoughtfulness and kindness of organizations like GUS Canada during this extreme time of need, that United Way of the Lower Mainland has been able to support our community partners and respond to immediate and urgent basic needs like this. By showing your local love, we’ve truly been able to harness the power of community and take pride in what we can achieve when we work together.

Thank you for doing your part,

Michael McKnight
